Just So Festival

How to do a festival on a budget!

The countdown to Just So Festival 2026 has officially begun! If you’re anything like us, your heart is probably doing a little happy dance at the thought of wild freedom, glittering wonder, and countless moments of pure family joy.

Doing anything on a budget feels like a superpower, and going to a festival is no exception. Experiencing the unique charm of Just So Festival doesn’t come for free, but it doesn’t have to completely decimate your bank account, we’ve pulled together some insider tips on how to make the most of Just So 2026 on a budget.

Think of this as your financial festival survival guide, ensuring you can immerse yourselves fully in the mischief and wonder without the post-festival financial hangover.

Tickets & Travel – Plan Early, Save Big

Your biggest outlay will, of course, be your tickets and getting there. This is where planning ahead truly pays dividends.

  1. Early Bird Gets the Worm (and the Best Price): Just like the wisest woodland creatures, if you act early, you’ll reap the rewards. The sooner you buy your tickets the cheaper they will be! Phase one tickets are currently on sale, snap them up now before they increase in price!
  2. Consider Camping: While there are options for glamping or staying off-site, bringing your own kit, and camping in our main camping area is by far the most budget-friendly accommodation. You can get some amazing deals on tents at larger shops like Decathlon where they often sell ex display tents, or if this is your first festival, why not borrow one from a mate?
  3. Travel Smart – Car Share or Public Transport: Fuel costs and parking can add up. Organise a car share with friends or other families also attending. Splitting fuel and parking fees instantly reduces your travel budget. Alternatively, look into public transport options. This year we are running a shuttle bus from Kidsgrove station to the festival site, get the train, hop on the shuttle bus and arrive at the festival site with a slightly lower carbon footprint too!

Food & Drink – Feast Wisely

Festival food is delicious, but buying every meal from the smorgasbord of vendors can quickly inflate your budget. This is where a bit of strategic planning comes into play.

  1. Pack a Picnic Powerhouse: Embrace the picnic! Stock up on non-perishable snacks, drinks, sandwiches, and fruit before you arrive. A cool box (or two!) packed with essentials will be your best friend. This allows you to fuel up on cheap, healthy meals and snacks throughout the day, saving your cash for those irresistible treats you simply can’t resist (like that incredible wood-fired pizza or the ethically sourced coffee).
  2. Hydration Station Hero: Bring reusable water bottles for everyone. There are free water refill stations dotted around the festival site. This is a massive saving, as buying bottled water throughout the day can add up significantly, and it’s much better for the planet too!
  3. Strategic Splurges: Don’t deny yourselves entirely! Plan for one or two “splurge” meals from the fantastic food vendors. Maybe it’s dinner on one night, or a special treat. Deciding beforehand helps you stick to your budget without feeling deprived. Remember, it’s about balance

Hidden Costs

The beauty of Just So Festival, is that there are zero hidden costs, you have to pay for your festival ticket, car parking and a programme, but once you’ve in the festival arena all workshops, activities, shows, silly dancing and amazing experiences are at no extra cost.

One ticket – a full weekend of pure joy awaits!

Be Prepared

Even the best-laid plans can hit a snag. Being prepared for minor eventualities can prevent unexpected costs.

  1. Pack Smart: Think about everything you might need: sun cream, raincoats (it is the UK!), wellies, spare clothes, first aid kit, power bank for phones (though try to embrace the digital detox!), head torches for nighttime adventures.
  2. Emergency Fund: Have a small, allocated emergency fund. This isn’t for splurges, but for genuine unexpected needs, like a forgotten essential item or a small repair. Knowing it’s there provides peace of mind.
  3. Leave Valuables at Home: Minimising the number of expensive items you bring reduces the stress of losing them or having them damaged, which can lead to costly replacements. Embrace the simple life for a few days.
