In 1972 in an apple tree in Central Park, one band changed music forever. The only reason you may not have heard of them is – they’re all insects.
As seen on BBC’s The One Show and Edinburgh Fringe 2026 – The Freebugs are bringing their funky, 70s-tasting tunes to the Just So Festival! The band present part concert, part narrative musical theatre and through the magic of catchy soul filled music tell the true story of how Cricket left his home in the fields with nothing but his trumpet and a dream of hitting the bug time.
Tune in your antennae to the rhythm of Ant, the bump of Beetle’s bass and the buzz of Bee’s sax and feel how the music of The Freebugs makes you feel like you’re flying – whether you’re a winged insect or not! Young larvas, old houseflies and even those currently stuck in their pupae stage will all find something to love in the beats, the heart and the characters – even the stick insect, if you manage to spot him.
